I struggled with making it look realistic like I wanted it to be, and ended up taking a half cartoon approach due to that. With practice I think I will start having an easier time with realism! I am extremely inspired by nature, and this was just something I felt I wanted to draw. Something about the mountains and water will always bring me joy. I went to bed upset the night before creating this when a past trauma resurfaced, I woke up feeling like it would be hard to get any school work done and decided to utilize my emotions through creating this sketch. I have never drawn a human before, and the hand alone imposed its own challenges. I knew I wouldn’t be able to do this without a reference photo, and had a clear image in my head, I decided to look through a girl I follow on instagram who has a large following due to her self portrait photography. She often creates very artistic images of herself, all taken by herself with a self timer. I was fortunate to find an image that was exactly what I was looking for and used it for reference, and added in the bandaid over her back. Attempted to try just playing around with charcoal as I was watching the sunrise from my house, I wanted to make something kind of light and abstract ish, it didnt really work. But I tried! I worked on shadows and light just using a pencil sitting on my desk for this sketchbook exercise. I wanted to leave it really grainy so it felt kind of like an old movie. this weekly drawing was actually an abstract doodle inspired by the drapery assignment. when I drew the folds of the cloth I wanted to turn it into something else immediately- so I ran with the idea later on. This sketch I honestly was just trying to come up with a way to bring back some creativity. I havent been feeling very creative lately and decided to just not think about what I was going to do and just start drawing whatever came to my head. So here is my monster like human haha.
